Can I delete a bid after it has been submitted?
You will have to contact the saleroom to cancel a bid after it has been submitted on the site.
How do I create “My Agent”?
Go to edit “My Account” and fill in the simple "My Agent"form at the bottom of the page.
All you have to do is provide “My Agent” with details of items you are interested in. If you have more than one item of interest just separate your keywords with a comma.
For example "majolica plate, radio" will find matches for two items:-majolica plates and radios. Similarly " majolica, plate, radio " will find matches for three items: - majolica items and plates and radios. Next choose how often you want “My Agent” to send alerts direct to your e-mail inbox.Click the box below to activate My Agent and finally, click Save before leaving the page.
The e-mails you receive from “My Agent” will contain all relevant information and a link to the Lots which contain your keyword(s).
You can add, delete or edit the information in “My Agent” as and when you wish, according to your changing requirements.
Remember to always click Save whenever you add or change keywords.
How do I find sale results?
To find a result in a previous sale, click on Search for recent sale results in the box marked Auction Sale Results, which you’ll find on the home page. If you are searching for a particular Lot and you know the auction house, sale date and the Lot number concerned, simply enter them using the drop-down menus in the search boxes. Click Go to complete the search and call up the hammer price for that Lot. To search previous sales in which either the auction house, date or Lot number are not known, simply type in keywords or phrases relating to the Lot or type of object you are interested in. You can further refine your search by searching only distinct categories and auction houses, selected from the drop down boxes. Contact the saleroom directly if you require information on an unsold Lot.
UKauctioneers also enables you to bid for lots. Find out more by clicking on our Help section
How do I get a valuation fo Insurance purposes?
Ukauctioneers.com are not auctioneers or valuers. Rather, we provide a portal for auctioneers to
promote their sales to the widest possible audience. I recommend, therefore, making contact directly with one or other auctioneer nearest
your home who might be prepared to provide you with a valuation for insurance purposes. Please bear in mind, however, that there is likely to be a charge for this service, unlike a saleroom valuation for auction
purposes which is made free by auctioneers in the hope that goods valued will be consigned for sale.
If you take this course of action, you should try to give the valuer as much information about the piece as possible: a sketch or photograph of the mark; an idea of the provenance of the piece - where, when and how you acquired it etc and price paid if possible. All these things will have a bearing on likely value.
How do I obtain a catalogue for a sale?
“Quick print” catalogues are downloadable as PDF files for current sales from the auction house home page. (Follow instructions to search for a sale as above). Otherwise, to obtain a copy of a fully printed sale catalogue, contact the auction house using the telephone numbers or email address given on the auctioneer’s home page. There will be a charge for the catalogue, plus postage, payable to the auction house
How do I pay and take posession for something I buy through Ukauctioneers?
Your winning commission bid placed through Ukauctioneers is a contract between you and the auction house in question. Auction house rules differ, so check their respective conditions of business and speak to the auctioneer about how best to make payment. Many auction houses accept payment by credit card but make a charge to cover costs levied by the card companies
If you place a winning bid on a Lot, congratulations, you can expect to be contacted by the auctioneer to ask you how you would prefer to pay for your purchase and take possession of it. Once you have paid, purchases can be collected in person at the auction house in the traditional manner. However, all auctioneers can arrange to post purchases to buyers internationally, either by Royal Mail, or courier service, and advise you on likely cost. Large or bulky furniture or Lots containing many pieces may need to be moved by a professional shipper and again, the auctioneer can advise you on reputable companies.
How do I place a bid?
Every lot has an “Add Bid” button. If you want to place a commission bid on a lot, simply enter the maximum price you are prepared to pay for the lot and click on “Add Bid”. Your bid will be listed in the “My Bids” section of your screen which appears in the right hand column, directly beneath “My Account”. When you have placed a bid, the “Add Bid” button changes to “Update Bid”. Should you change your mind, you can raise or lower your bid(s) by inserting the new amount and clicking the “Update Bid” button. To delete a bid, click on the small trashcan which appears alongside each lot in your “My Bids” section. Next, click on “Continue”. This page prepares your bids for email posting to the auctioneer(s) and gives you one final opportunity to review them before submitting them. Bid amounts can be raised or lowered as above, using the “Update Bid” button. This page also carries links to the conditions of business of the auction house(s) whose lot(s) you are bidding on. When you are happy with your bid(s) click the “Submit Bids” button to email your bids to the auction house(s) concerned. If you would like to fax or post your bids, use the “Print Bids” button to print this page. Where more than one auction house is concerned, your bids will be printed on separate pages for easier sending. It is also a good idea to print out your bids for your records, particularly if submitting them by email.
How do I search for a lot?
Go to “Lot Search” and type in keywords or phrases relating to the items you are interested in. By combining search criteria, you can limit the number of lots found. For example, to find Teddy bears in auction sales in Scotland, type the keyword “Teddy bear” and select the region “Scotland” from the drop down list. Searches can be refined to specific regions, named auction houses and collecting categories.

Once you have logged in, there are a number of ways to access a catalogue. The most simple being to click on "current catalogues", a list of catalogues in alphabetical order, which you can choose to change to sale date order will appear as a list. Otherwise find the auction house you are looking for by clicking on "Auction House Search" and then choose the saleroom from the drop down menu this takes you to their UKauctioneers home page which gives details of their current and future sales. What terminology would be useful to know?
There are a few terms that you need to understand so that you get the best buy at an auction.
• Pre-sale estimate – This is the price the auction house expects the item to sell for.
• Provenance – If available, it is the history of the piece detailing past owners.
• Start Price – This is the price at which the auction will begin.
• Reserve Price – This is a pre-set amount that the seller has agreed is the lowest amount he/she will accept. Not all items will have a reserve. Items with a reserve will only sell if the reserve price has been met. You’ll find out if the reserve has been met, after the bidding is completed. The reserve price is not disclosed at the close of bidding.
• As found - means the items is selling in the condition that is currently in. Usually means that it needs work in some way.
• Hammer Price – This is the price that the item sells for when the gavel comes down.
• Absentee Bid/commission bids – you do not have to physically be in the auction house at the time of the auction to bid. Bids can be placed by phone, fax or online. If you are not known to the saleroom, some auction houses will only take commission bids secured by your credit card details.
• "associated" means that it is not part of the original piece
